CORONALDEHYDE DERIVATIVES: REACTIONS OF CORONENE. (PART II)

Diethyl coronylidenemalonate (II), prepared from coronaldehyde, was nitrated to diethyl dinitrocoronylidenemalonate (III). Cyanocoronene (V), also prepared from coronaldehyde via coronaldoxime (IV), gave on hydrolysis coronenecarboxylic acid (VII). Nitration of cyanocoronene, under vigorous conditions, produced cyanopentanitrocoronene (VI) which was converted into pentanitrocoronenecarboxylic acid (VIII). This acid (VIII) was also prepared by nitrating coronenecarboxylic acid (VII) under forcing conditions. read more

HEPTA - AND OCTA - AMMONIATES OF NICKEL (II) THIOCYANATE

Nickel (II) thiocyanate reacts with ammonia at - 35.4oC yielding solvated products Ni (NCS)2. NH3 (n = 7.8) with respective ammonia vapour pressures of 40 and 120 mm Hg at this temerpature. The van't Hoff's method for the determinationof dissociation enthalpies gave values of 30.8 and 29.4 kJ mol-1 for the seven - and eight - ammoniates respectively. read more

STABILITY CONSTANTS AND RELATED THERMODYNAMIC FUNCTIONS OF Cu+2, Ni+2, Co+2 AND Mn+2 COMPLEXES OF METHYLENEBIS (THIOACETIC ACID)

The stability constants of Cu+2, Ni+2, Co+2 and Mn+2 complex of methelenbis (thioacetic acid) have been determined in aqueous media at u=0.IM (NaClO4) and 20o, 30o and 40oC employing Bjerrum-Calvin pH titration techniques of refined by alternative methods. The stability of complexes follows the order:- Cu+2> Ni+2> Co+2> Mn+2 The free energy enthalpy and entropy changes involved in the complexation have also been evaluated at30oC. read more

SOME NEWERE QUINAZOLONES AS POSSIBLE ANTICONVULSANTS

In view of their expected MAO inhibitory, cns depressant and anticonvulsant properties, twenty four new 2-(O-methoxy-phenoxymethyl)-3-(a-substituted carboxamidomethyl)-6,8-substituted-4-quinazolones were convulsant activity but none of them showed significant activity.read more

A POTENTIOMETRIC STUDY OF SOME LIGAND AMINO ACID CHELATES OF THORIUM AND ZIRCONIUM: EDTA ASPARTIC ACID/GLUTAMIC ACID SYSTEM

Mixed ligand 1:1:1 chelates of Th(IV) and Zr(IV) containing EDTA as primary ligand and amino acids such as aspartic acid and glutamic acid as secondary ligands, have been studied potentiometrically, and their stability constants log KMLA are reported. The mixed complexes formed are [Th(EDTA)A]2- and [Zr(EDTA)(OH)A]3-  respectively (where A = aspartate or glutamate anions) and Th(IV) forms stronger chelates than Zr(IV). read more

SYNTHESIS AND MASS-SPECTRAL STUDIES OF NEW BENZIMIDAZOLES

Synthesis, chromatographic behaviour and mass spectral fragmentation pattern of some 2-substituted 4/5-nitrobenzimidazoles are described. The mass spectral data of these benzimidazoles, in conjunction with mass-spectral data obtained for corresponding 2-substituted benzimidazoles having no nitrosubstituent in benzene ring show that fragments at m/e 103, 91, 90, 64 and 63 are diagnostic for benzimidazole nucleus.read more

ALKYLATION OF ADENOSINE-5'-MONOPHOSPHATE WITH ALKYL HALIDES UNDER STRONGLY ALKALINE CONDITIONS

Alkylation of adenosine-5'-monophosphate (5'-AMP) with alkyl halides under strongly alkaline conditions has been investigated. Reaction with methyl-,ethyl-, normal and iso-propyl iodides using a mixture of 1N NaOH and dioxane gave predominantly sugar substituted derivatives. The structure of major products, with special reference to orientation of alkyl groups at the ribose moiety, has been established through U.V. and NMR spectroscopy, and through paper chromatography. read more

MONOLAYER AND SPECIFIC SURFACE AREA COMPUTATIONS FOR FOURTEEN ORGANIC VAPOUR-CHARCOAL SYSTEMS

Monolayer and specific surface area values have been reported for fourteen different organic vapours adsorbed on charcoal. Five well known equations namely Langmuir. Joyner, Kaganer, Reciprocal pressure - volume and BET were employed using IBM 360 - G44 computer programme for computations. Comparison of Joyner and BETA monolayer values is given for four organic compounds whilst monolayer and specific surface area values are reported and discussed for fourteen organic compounds adsorbed on charcoal. read more
